Bohunt School Horsham – Innovating Food Waste Solutions

Overview
As the winner of the West Sussex Climate Enterprise Award (CEA) 2023, Bohunt School Horsham had an innovative idea focusing on food redistribution and food waste reduction. From this winning idea, a comprehensive ‘School Food Waste Management Guide’ was created and which now supports schools across the county, and now the UK.

Key Achievements

  • Created the ‘School Food Waste Management Guide’, a best-practice resource now used by schools across the UK.
  • Introduced on-site composting, reducing organic waste and enriching school gardens.
  • Established a food waste collection system, ensuring food scraps are responsibly managed.
  • Launched a student-led awareness campaign, educating peers on the environmental impact of food waste.

By participating in the Climate Enterprise Award, Bohunt students developed critical thinking and leadership skills while addressing a real-world issue. Wastebuster’s resources supported their initiative, helping them structure their project and track its success.

Teacher Perspective
